Twelve new wallpapers and eight new fabrics are now available.
Some are new offerings, and some are matching fabrics to existing wallpapers.
Two new upholstery fabrics include 'Field Poppy Brocade' - a rich, heavy upholstery fabric with the look of embroidery - and 'Fulham Tapestry', which is an Arts & Crafts chenille fabric that is soft to the touch.
Two new printed fabrics match existing popular wallpapers. 'Springtime' is a wonderful design from the 1920's of tulips, poppies, iris, bluebells and daffodils in a cheerful over-all pattern.
The 'Hummingbirds' cotton fabric is a design from the late 1700's featuring an array of small birds in a light lattice of leaves and twigs. 'Hummingbirds' comes in two colourways - on a light green background or on a warm off-white.
'Peacock Feathers Wallpaper' is a sensuous design from the 1880's, and was found in a Scottish country house.
'Federal Damask' wallpaper is a classic tone-on-tone design, usable for Federal or Colonial Revival homes. It comes in four soft colourways and one richer colourway of gilt on deep red.
We have added new colourways for two of our fabrics: Celtic Knot from the 1890's has a new soft green colourway, and a soft gold and navy colourway has been added for Voysey's Birds. Both are handsome upholstery fabrics.
We are also introducing six new colourways of 'Medway'. This design, taken from the background of William Morris' 'Garden Tulip' is favourite for small-scale spaces requiring an attractive natural pattern. With the new additions, we now offer thirteen colourways of this pattern, one of which is sure to please.
Samples are always available to order for a modest cost. Postage is included on sample orders.
Charles Rupert's William Morris wallpapers in Elle! Recognizing Good Design and Eco-friendly wallpapers!
May issue 2008
Elle magazine's "The Green Issue" (May 2008) has featured Charles Rupert Designs as one of "Our four favorite decorating faithfuls" which "just happen to be low-impact standard-bearers" in the Eco-friendly stakes.
Elle writes: "Charles Rupert's wallpapers have always valued a planet-friendly style that never sacrifices the styles that William Morris designed. As opposed to most wallpapers made with formaldehyde and vinyl, (toxic and fumy), many of Charles Rupert's are 100 percent paper, with water-based inks and coatings."
William Morris' wallpaper design "Bird and Anemone" designed in 1882 and exclusive to Charles Rupert Designs in three colourways - is printed on actual wall paper (not vinyl) from managed forests, and is installed with either traditional wheat paste or cellulose paste, both traditional and environmentally friendly adhesives.
(And after years of enjoying a beautiful design on your walls, when the time comes, this paper can be recycled)
Charles Rupert Designs has identified its own wallpapers with an "Eco-friendly wallpaper" logo:

New Wallpapers and Fabrics!
In time for Spring, we are introducing coordinating wallpapers and fabrics. "Rowan Wallpaper" and "Rowan Weave" are based on a delightful 1901 English design by Arthur Wilcock. Often mistaken as a design by C.F.A. Voysey, with its matched birds and sweeping Art Nouveau curves, this design was originally a one colour pattern. Now recoloured as a multi-coloured wallpaper, and also made into a fine weave with a shimmer in the threads, the design has been beautifully revived.
We are also introducing "Crawford", a c1900 wallpaper from a Scottish house. This softly coloured design of roses, tulips, grape hyacinth provides a gentle background to almost any room.
We are also introducing a new colourway of "Crown Imperial" an English design of 1910.
Our customers have recently been asking which wallpapers are Eco-friendly, so we have provided this information on our new "Eco Product Information" page.
For our own exclusive wallpapers we have provided the following information:
Paper source, paper content, chemical content, and the source of the pigments and fillers used in the process of manufacturing our wallpapers.
Other wallpapers that we sell may also be up to these high standards, and as we identify them, they too will be identified with our new "Eco-Wallpaper" logo.
We have added four beautiful new upholstery fabrics for Fall decorating projects.
"Luxembourg Weave" is a luxurious naturalistic weave that features tulips and twining leaves. The surface of the weave almost looks like finely detailed embroidery, and has a slight sheen to the threads.
The other two fabrics are additional new colourways of existing popular fabrics.
"Thistle Field" is a handsome chenille fabric. It is soft and heavy, and can be used both for upholstery and heavy draperies. The new colourway is in shades of green, with golds and brick in the design.
"Celtic Knot" also has a new colourway in greens and bricks. This woven fabric is a c1890's design and can be used for upholstery projects.
Sometimes referred to as "the jewelry of the house", correct hardware is the finishing touch to any heritage restoration project.
An occasional key piece of hardware might be missing or broken, other times several new hardware items are required to make a new kitchen blend in with the rest of the old house. How to find them?
We have selected a variety of period-suitable hardware items - ranging from hinges to bin-pulls, and from sash lifts to an unusual dog-leash holder - all suitable for heritage houses. They are all replica items, either cast from historic originals, or made to match historic originals.
So if you need one piece of matching hardware, or enough bin-pulls for an entire new kitchen, please look at our hardware section.

A new fabric from the 1880's!
A new wallpaper from 1910!
New additions to our historic wallpapers and fabrics for Spring 2007. "Peacock Weave" fabric is an adaptation of Arthur Silver's "Peacock Feathers" design of 1887. This fabric is a visually rich upholstery fabric, and is 'railroaded' (the design is woven sideways across the fabric so that upholstery on a couch for example can be done without seams). "Peacock Weave" comes in two colourways: rich Reds and Golds; and Browns, Green-greys and Blacks.
"Crown Imperial" wallpaper is a design from 1910, when it was originally printed by the English firm Jeffrey & Co. Depicting a lush tangle of roses and Crown Imperial lilies, the design hints at Art Nouveau in its curling stems. This wallpaper comes in three colourways.

repeat) customers - who let us know what they are
thinking, and what their projects look like.
We
have collected many responses from appreciative
customers that have sent emails to us since 1999.
We decided to present those messages [edited for
privacy reasons] on our new "Customer Feedback" page,
to give you an idea of the breadth of purchases
and projects that our customers are involved in.
Country Home magazine has featured
Charles Rupert Designs' wallpaper on the cover
of their April 2007 issue, and on pages 110 and
111. In their "green" issue,
our green and cream Pink & Rose wallpaper
- designed by William Morris in 1890 - is still
made as it was 100 years ago. Made from formaldehyde-free
paper from managed forests, and applied with environmentally
sensitive wheat paste or cellulose paste,
Charles Rupert's exclusive wallpapers are true
papers, and not 'paper-backed vinyl'.
Style at Home magazine, in their
March 2007 issue, has also featured Pink & Rose wallpaper,
along with Gothic Leaves, in their "Home & Style" column.
Style at Home called Charles Rupert Designs "a
treasure trove of rare and historic wallpapers, tapestries,
fabrics and tiles."
Walls, Windows & Floors magazine
also showed Pink & Rose wallpaper in their Spring
2007 issue under the title "Wall Flowers". The magazine
recommends adding "an artisanal touch to your room
with a hand-blocked wallpaper - or one that looks hand
blocked".
The vintage wallpaper printing machines that Charles
Rupert Designs use ensure an unparalleled texture and
historic accuracy in the final designs. You can send
for a sample of the featured Pink & Rose WP
1221-2 (Rich cream on Green).
Cushions add comfort and colour to any room! Whether
they match the fabric, or add a distinctive focal
point, cushions add softness and style to your
interior decoration.
Charles Rupert Designs has chosen a distinctive
selection of cushions appropriate for traditional
homes. Some are cotton, some are tapestry. Some
are by William Morris, and others date from the
1920's and later.
We have added some designs and reorganized our
cushion sections for easier selections of style
and colours.

New Wallpapers in Traditional Home section!
We have added 17 new wallpapers and three fabrics in four designs - ready for Spring decorating.
They range from "Urn & Coral" - a Neoclassical design c1800, to "Ashnola" an Aesthetic-style influenced design suitable for interiors from 1880-1900.
We also have added an adaptation of a William Morris design of 1875 called "Acanthus Scroll" and a new colourway of an Arts & Crafts landscape border called "Monashee Border", which would work well in the interior of a Bungalow other Arts & Crafts style rooms. Enjoy the new designs.
February 2007 World of Interiors magazine features Charles Rupert Designs wallpaper!
In their regular 'Swatch' column, World of Interiors magazine from London, has included "Fleur de Lis & Rose' wallpaper - from Charles Rupert Designs' Historic Wallpapers Collection.
This wallpaper has been formed into the spire of a gothic country church, set against a landscape at dusk, illuminated by a hazy full moon.
This wallpaper was found in the Dining Room of the 1865 Ross Bay Villa in Canada. The design was based on a wallpaper from London's Palace of Westminster from 1850, though reduced in scale for domestic applications. Reproduced exactly from the original document, the wallpaper is now available for other gothic interiors.

Charles Rupert Designs at Grove Park Inn's 20th Annual Arts & Crafts Conference and Trade Show February 15 - 18, 2007
In Asheville, North Carolina, at the 1913 Grove Park Inn, over 2,000 Arts & Crafts enthusiasts will gather in mid February to attend seminars, lectures, visit the Antique Show and Sale, and visit the Trade Show of new Craftspeople producing products in the time honoured manner, in the Arts & Crafts tradition.
Charles Rupert Designs will be showcasing their historic wallpapers, printed on historic surface print machines, in both William Morris and Arts & Crafts designs. This year we will be introducing the first of our fabrics, to co-ordinate with our wallpapers. Our Design Director and Operations Director will be in attendance. We look forward to meeting our many customers and friends at Grove Park.
After visiting the Trade Show, you can sit on the veranda of the original wing of the Inn, on a hickory rocker, with a drink, looking at the sun setting over the Blue Ridge Mountains, 20 miles away. Also remember that Biltmore House is in Asheville. It is a wonderful and amazing historic house tour. Biltmore is the largest house in the United States and was built in the French Chateau style, and is worth spending a full extra day in Asheville to tour this wonderful estate.

Charles Rupert Designs supplies wallpaper to Sir John
Soane’s Museum in London!
We were very pleased that Sir John Soane’s
Museum in London has asked Charles Rupert Designs
to supply wallpaper for their upcoming exhibition
titled: First Loves, Last Loves, Sir John Betjeman and Architecture. The exhibit commemorates the
Centennial of the birth of Sir John Betjeman, the
famous and popular Poet Laureate.
Sir John was
a great admirer of the wallpaper designs of William
Morris. Betjeman, and his wife Penelope lived in
Morris' Kelmscott House briefly in the 1950's.
His various houses were always papered with Morris
patterns, and especially the libraries in which
his collection of antiquarian books was housed.
His wife Penelope even had a dressing gown made
of Morris’ ‘Bird and Anemone’ pattern!
One of Betjeman’s favourite designs was William
Morris’ ‘Vine” and it is this
exclusive wallpaper design from Charles Rupert
Designs that the Museum has chosen for the exhibit,
in a documentary colouring from 1897.
First Loves,
Last Loves, Sir John Betjeman and Architecture.

"Thicket" wallpaper introduced!
This paper is new and provides a good overall
small-scale naturalistic design - perfect for a
background paper. It is also one of the few papers
that have a vinyl coating and is washable, so is
useable in areas where that may be an additional
consideration.
This design coordinates well with
the "Monashee" landscape frieze; as well
as the "Louvain" border
As a part of our timeless Classic Fabric section,
we have added a well-priced velvet. This velvet
is soft to the touch and drapes well. It come in
eleven subtle, but rich colours, and is suitable
for upholstery, drapes, and bedcovers.

Two new Arts & Crafts upholstery fabrics!
Keeping up with the interest in Arts & Crafts
interiors, we have added two new fabrics: "Bramble
Tapestry" and "Carnation Weave".
Both are suitable for homes from the 1900-1925
period - especially those in the Craftsman style.
But these are also suitable for use in new homes
as well.
For devotees of this iconic style, we have a new
wallpaper and an upholstery fabric.
"Iona" is
a tone on tone screen-printed wallpaper featuring
a stylized iris design. It comes in two colours
to start with more colours to be added shortly.
"Art
Nouveau Bouquet" is a heavy upholstery fabric
with a mix of yarns in the weave, which subtly
reflect light to give a 'life' to the design. In
two colourways.

Better Homes & Gardens features Charles Rupert!
In their July/August 2006 issue of Kitchen
and Bath Ideas, on page 36, Better Homes and Gardens
lists Charles Rupert as a supplier for wallpaper
for a handsome kitchen renovation in Chicago.
Husband
and wife architects Stuart Cohen and Julie Hacker
chose William Morris' "Sunflower" wallpaper
for their kitchen in a 100 year old building. Set
off with beautifully detailed white cabinets and
subway tiles, the "Sunflower" wallpaper
in grey tones adds a softness and warmth to their
home's design.
Since this design was discontinued some months
ago by the manufacturer, we have been fielding
many calls about this popular design.
Now it's
back! Now printed by a silk-screen process, the
paper retains its handsome tone-on-tone colourways.
It is vinyl coated and washable. It is an adaptation
of one of William Morris' great designs - a full
colour version of Strawberry Thief, designed in
1883.
The Aldworth, was originally a two-block wallpaper,
designed by C.F.A. Voysey c1910. Now printed as
a wallpaper, as well as a fabric, it offers coordinating
choices for your rooms.

New Owen Jones wallpaper!
New Pugin Silk!
Two great Victorian designers, Owen Jones (1809-1874)
and Augustus Pugin (1812-1852) illuminated the
mid-Victorian period.
Owen Jones designed wallpapers,
tiles, mosaics and interiors. He was the Superintendent
of Works for the Great Exhibition of 1851, and
in 1856 published "The Grammar of Ornament".
This new wallpaper is known as a "diaper" (or
overall repeating) design. It comes in eight handsome
colours, and is useful as a good background paper
for art and furniture.
Augustus Pugin was responsible
for the decoration of the Houses of Parliament
in the 1850's and the popularity of the Gothic
Revival style. This silk/cotton fabric is dramatic
and overscaled, and would be a handsome addition
to a period interior.
Introducing three new Arts & Crafts borders.
The "Louvain" border; the "Monashee" border,
and the "Primula" border all bring an
Arts & Crafts sensibility to their designs.
Adapted from wallpaper documents from the 1900
- 1920 period, the texture and patterns are particularly
suitable for those with houses in the Arts & Crafts
or Craftsman style.
The "Monashee" border,
carries on a rich tradition in Landscape friezes,
and works well with the new "Thicket" wallpaper
with its over-all leaf design (coming very shortly!)

2006 issue has featured Charles Rupert Design's "Wentworth" exclusive

English brocatelle silk." The design is by English
designer Bruce Talbert (1838-1881) who was well-known
for his furniture and textile designs in the Aesthetic
and Anglo-Japanese styles. The all-over pattern of
sunflowers and blossoms is printed using both mica
and gold metallic inks to evoke the original silk.
In four colourways.

This rich silk fabric is based on an original made in
England in the 1880's. The document (original) colour
is in a Robin's Egg blue on Cream, but it is offered
in six other colours as well.
The fabric reflects light, and the colours change with
the angle from where you look at it.
The design elements of flying swallows, sunflowers and
dragon flies are all hallmarks of the Aesthetic style.

New William Morris Wallpapers and Fabrics!
The popularity of William Morris' designs continues.
We are introducing six new designs to our William
Morris collection.
The first wallpaper Morris ever designed, "Trellis",
was produced in 1864, and inspired by the rose trellis
in the garden of Morris' own Red House, now owned
by the National Trust in England. A triumph of the
Surface Printing technique, "Trellis" is
available in 5 colourways. It will impress you.
"Honeysuckle I", designed by Morris in
1876, is back in four new colourways, in a linen union
fabric.
"Brother Rabbit", inspired in 1882 by the
Uncle Remus books, is now available in both wallpaper
and fabric, and printed by a method simulating the
"indigo discharge" process.
"Sunflower", from 1879 has been reinterpreted
into a lush printed velvet with the feel of Morris'
opulent original prints, as well as a new simpler
interpretation of the design called "Sunflower
Etch".
"Autumn Flowers" was originally produced
in a wallpaper in 1888, and is now available in a
rich textured velvet fabric in four colourways.
"Wild Rose" (or "Rose"), a design
of 1883, is reintroduced in two colourways in a 100%
cotton fabric.

These new papers are evocative of their time periods.
From the 1940's we have a repeating floral wallpaper
called Floral Silk in two colourways. From the 1950's
we introduce a wonderful paper called Fern Trail in
the soft greys and silvers so popular in that decade.
From the 1960's we have two new papers: Paisley Flower
and Shadow Trellis. Both of these papers bring the
period alive with their colours and design.

Stone Block Wallpapers!
Designed historically to give a substantial appearance
to entry halls, stone block papers were used from
Georgian times through to the 1890's. Even today,
Stone Block papers give a warm, calm, pleasing and
sophisticated aura to rooms. We present two versions
of Stone Block: Warm stone with a light mortar join;
and Sandstone, with a darker mortar join. You will
find Stone Block papers in three time periods in our
Traditional Home section.

The 1960's Return with Swinging Wallpapers!
Who thought that these papers would rate as "Historic"?
Well, they do!
Charles Rupert is pleased to offer some spectacular
reprints of designs from the 1960's, including papers
from David Hicks, the renowned English interior designer,
called appropriately "Hicks's Hexagon",
and "Hicks's Moghul". Other designers of
the 1960's also have their designs recreated for a
new age. Una Lindsay's "Malabar" and Michael
Clark's "Flamingos" add their designs from
the period.
These bold designs bring back the India-inspired
colours and striking patterns of the swinging decade.
They go great with post and beam houses and Saarninen
Tulip chairs, or as a spectacular feature wall in
a modern apartment furnished with low modern furniture
with chrome legs. It's time to have fun!
(From top to bottom: "Hicks's
Hexagon", "Hicks's Moghul", "Malabar"
and "Flamingos".)

1700's have been reproduced in this graceful design.
Tiny birds flitting among a bower of fine leaves and
flowers will give a light background in a traditional
interior.
Matching fabric in 100% cotton allows curtains and
light upholstery to match beautifully for a coordinated
room design.
